About Joy Captures
Joy Captures is run by Sydney Nielson. Growing up, Sydney used to fly with her grandmother to Georgia to visit her aunt and uncle for a week every summer. Her uncle has had the opportunity to travel around the world as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. One summer while visiting Georgia her uncle was showing her photos, he had been taking on his trips and how he edits them. That summer she fell in love with photography.
At the age of 16 years old, Sydney bought her first camera in a bundle off Amazon with money she had saved up. She started off doing photoshoots with her friends. They would find viewpoints, fields, and cities to do photoshoots in. Sydney also had the opportunity to take photos of her gymnastics teammates during their competitions one season. During Sydney's junior year of high school, she was in an entrepreneurship class and made a business plan for a photography company called "Joy Captures Photography". The business was centered around starting a gymnastics photography business.
While Sydney studied finance in college at Oregon State University, she continued to grow in her passion for photography. She expanded to taking photos of more than just her friends. Sydney started taking photos of landscapes, objects, nature, which expanded into photoshoots for families, couples, seniors, professionals, and so forth.
Now, in 2024, Sydney has decided to turn her passion into a true a business. Her passion stems from wanting to share the beauty of the world with anyone and everyone she can. She takes every opportunity to share her work with others. The beauty in the world isn't just the landscapes, architecture, and nature, it's the people. She wants to use her work to capture the beauty of the milestones in people's lives, help them to see how beautiful they are, and to capture the joy each person brings into this world.
